O.C. residents get preview of fall fur trends

An empty private airplane hangar near John Wayne Airport was transformed Thursday night into a high fashion show, filled with patrons sipping tangerine mint martinis and ready to view the newest trends for fall.

The event, hosted by Nordstrom and benefiting the Orange County Museum of Art, included boutique shopping and a fashion show with selections from the fall 2011 collections featured in runways from Paris, Milan and New York.

"This fall, a retro-inspired femininity defines the season," said Nordstrom fashion creative director Gregg Andrews.

Fourteen designer collections participated in the runway show, including Givenchy, Versace, Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney and Jason Wu.

This year, fall trends are inspired by modern interpretations of fashions from the 1940s-1970s and fashion experts and event patrons agreed the biggest trend for fall is fur, even for Southern California residents.

"It's how you wear it," said attendee Rachel Jackson Smith of Fullerton. "In a scarf, wrap or trim, and even on handbags or shoes."
