PETA Are a Bunch of Silly Gesse
Lady Gaga is under fire for rocking a fur coat on her European tour, with PETA penning a blistering open letter to Mother Monster and accusing her of betrayal.
Dan Mathews, PETA’s senior vice president, wrote:
“Many of your gay fans, myself among them, have long admired what you told Ellen [DeGeneres]: ‘I hate fur and I don’t wear fur.’”
However, he adds, it appears “that you have amnesia … What happened? Are your stylists telling you that it’s fake, or are you a turncoat?”

Here’s why I don’t like PETA: they’re completely oblivious to how business/companies/the real world work.
A few years ago, a certain type of elephant in Africa was becoming endangered. People had tried implementing penalties for killing the animal, but all that did was stop the elephants’ numbers from dwindling even more instead of increasing the number of elephants.
Finally some economist decided to just divvy up all the elephants and assign a certain number to different villages across Africa. If their herd’s numbers increased, the people got a reward. Simple as that.
Amazingly, the herds increased, and the elephant is no longer extinct.
Now I’m no genius, but I feel like if uncivilized tribesmen in Africa can get the concept of rewards, then I feel like a big business – like a business that makes fur coats – could grasp that concept as well.
See, like foresters are required to plant more trees than they cut down, companies that make money off of animals only increase the animal population. Yes, that may not have been true 100 (or even 20) years ago, but with a new appreciation for making and sustaining profits, companies have found that when their supply runs out, so does their revenue.
That’s why even though thousands of pounds of beef is consumed daily in America, cows are nowhere near extinct–farmers make a lot of money off of them, so they make sure their herds stay large. The same is true with companies that make leather and fur goods–these businesses make a lot of money off of their animals, so it’s in their best interest to not let them go extinct (or even endangered).
This is why, much to the befuddlement of PETA and environmentalists everywhere, paper companies, Lowe’s, companies that make fur coats, and McDonald’s don’t hurt the environment or cause the animal population to dwindle. In fact, they do the opposite.
Do you know what doesn’t do the opposite?
Recycling.
It’s true.
When a paper company offers recycling and recycled goods, they don’t have to plant as many trees to make up for the ones they cut down. It’s pretty similar to a 1:1 ratio as opposed to a 1.5:1 or even 2:1 ratio if there were no recycling.
In short, this is why I could never be an environmentalist or a member of PETA. Any group that stands for something but has no clue how to enforce, demonizes innocent people, and annoys the hell out of everyone who doesn’t have the same opinions is a group that I tend to avoid.
But going back to the fur coat, come on, PETA. Lighten up. The animal’s already dead anyway, so why not honor its last wish of being made into a beautiful coat worn by one of the world’s most popular musicians.
What? Do you think it wished to rot away and get eaten by vultures?
