Adding Fur Accents to Your Wardrobe - Fur Vests, Fur Scarf, Fur Collar, etc.

By Korrie Bysted, Daily Staff Writer

As much as we hate to admit it, summer is over, and it is time for fall. With each season comes a change in our go-to fashion trends.

Big trends for women this fall are red lips, blues and earthy tones, military jackets, sparkling trousers, leather, Peplums, padded hips, and fur accents.

For men, there are earth-toned colors, beards, leather pants, all-over prints, high-waisted pants, velvet and fur.

Now the question is how do you incorporate these trends into your going out attire? Here are a few suggestions to get your fall wardrobe up to date.

Let’s start with the ladies.

Fall has begun and before long it will be winter. So the age-old question of how to stay warm and look cute at the same time is back into play. This fall, the answer is fur accents.

You can still wear your tight skirts and sheer shirts, but add a jacket with some fur on it for extra warmth and a little bit of edge.

If fur just isn’t your thing, you can always add a military jacket to your outfit for a little bit rougher look that will keep you warm in the colder weather.

One of this fall’s favorite trends is the sparkling trouser — which you’ll find to be sheer with shorts underneath.

One way to bring this style from runway to Lincoln Way is by wearing a cute but casual V-neck shirt to tone down the pants a little, while still keeping a modern and edgy look.

The next big trend on the list is the oh-so-coveted peplum style. This season, emphasis

on the hips is huge: From padded hips to structured hips to peplums themselves, you won’t see anything else more, well, hip.

The problem is that this is a tough look to pull of in general, and it is by far the hardest to incorporate into your nightlife attire.

With this trend being so far out there, the best thing to do is start small. Go for a tight skirt with a peplum at the top. And then once you get that look down and feel comfortable, start trying out looks with padded hips.

Leather is another big trend this season.

For men, it’s leather pants.

For ladies its leather everything.

The all-leather look is definitely in this fall, but if that’s not for you, try a leather bustier underneath a sheer button up top for a fun, but flirty, look.

There is the so-called fashion rule that says you can’t wear blue and black together.

However, this season’s royal blue will look perfect with a black body-con skirt. Turquoise will play into the nightlife perfectly: You might even wear it with those sparkly trousers we talked about earlier.

Earth tones are always in

for fall, just make sure you choose rich shades that don’t wash you out.

Last but not least are those sexy, red lips.

You can wear any shade from ox blood to crimson, and

it is guaranteed to add a splash of sexiness to any outfit.

Guys: When you want to class things up a little bit, try throwing on a velvet blazer or overcoat.

High-waisted pants and all-over prints may be a little obnoxious for the nightlife scene, but don’t let that stop you from trying those looks out during the day. Leather pants, however, are perfect for night time.

So as you put your summer clothes away for the fall and begin to update your wardrobe in plans for the colder weather, take into account the latest trends and turn them from runway perfect to Lincoln Way edgy.

How to Clean a New Fur Fur Cleaning

Fur Cleaning Process "Old vs New" Fur Cleaning Process The processing of fur manufacturing has changed over the last few years. The new furs should not be cleaned in the traditional method which was passed down from generation to generation. Since the furs are lighter in weight today, they are a bit more delicate and need some additional care. The old method of fur cleaning was to use sawdust or ground corn cobbs with a cleaning solution, tumble the fur in a fur drum for 15-30 minutes, once complete, the furs need to be tumbled again, in a different drum, to remove the saw dust or ground corn cobbs. The old process can cause rips and tears to your new fur by adding additional stress to the fur from the tumbling process. In addition if the cleaning solution is not carefully measured and if the leather gets wet, it can cause some shrinkage or stiffness. The new fur cleaning method, conditions and cleans the hair without any stress on the fur or leather. No tumbling or drumming is required. The new fur cleaning solution is biodegradable, adds a fresh clean smell and your fur will feel so soft and silky.

Lady Gaga defies animal rights activists in another fur coat

Her taste for fur has led to calls to boycott her music.

But Lady Gaga defied her critics once more on Wednesday night as she stepped out in a fur coat and hat.

The 26-year-old pop singer added her own twist to her all-black ensemble, wearing her coat half off her shoulder and baring her stomach in a cropped top.

Forget something? Lady Gaga was spotted out in New York wearing half a fur coat and a stomach baring crop top on Wednesday night

Aren't you cold? Lady Gaga was spotted out in New York wearing her fur coat half off and a stomach baring crop top on Wednesday night

Gaga was joining a host of stars at a private Versace dinner in New York.

While her taste for fur will be seen as acceptable at the designer's table, not everyone is so accepting.

But Gaga has made it clear she does not care about her critics.

She angered animal rights activists when she took to her blog to defend her use of fur earlier this year.

'I am choosing not to comment on whether or not the furs I purchase are faux fur-pile or real because I would think it hypercritical not to acknowledge the python, ostrich, cow hide, leather, lamb, alligator, 'kermit' and not to mention meat, that I have already worn,' Gaga explained.

'I have truly always stayed away from skinned fur, especially as I have never been able to afford a nice one, but this does not mean my morals are rigid and that I won't bend at the sight of an absolute art piece of a coat. I have no chains about this.'

Gaga is famous for her 'meat' dress, making her views on fur perhaps unsurprising.

She also Peta's campaign against fur.

'I do not support violent, abusive, and childish campaigns for ANY CAUSE,' she said, in a dig at the charity.

How to bring Fur Manufacturing and Fur Jobs Back to New York

in the early 50's there were over 20,000 fur workers in the United States. We lost these fabulous, high paying jobs to China.

Today, over 95% of all furs sold in the USA are manufactured in China. We lost our jobs and our creativity to another country.

The solution to bring back the jobs of fur manufacturing in the United States is very easy to solve. It is the fault of our government , not the business owners that import the product.

The path to a successful business is cost cutting and delivering the best product to the public with the most competitive pricing. That is the only reason why are jobs have left this country.

Solution : If the government increases the import duty from 4.1% to 20%, on any finished fur coat or fur jacket, this will cause us to bring manufacturing, designing and labor back to the States. Its simply a cost of product, this is the issue. This will make the labor more competitive and remove the edge of cheap Chinese labor and currency manipulation.

Bring Jobs Back to America, We Need The Work.

Fur bikinis Brazil is new horizon for booming fur trade

Fur bikinis? Brazil is new horizon for booming fur trade

September 30, 2012

PARIS, Sept 30 — Fur on Copacabana beach? Why not.

A model displays a creation as part of Prada Spring-Summer 2013 collection on September 20, 2012 during the Women's fashion week in Milan. — AFP pic
Boosted by a 10-year surge in sales to Asia, the global fur industry is primed to take on what it sees as the markets of tomorrow.

Hobbled during the anti-fur 1980s and 1990s, the trade has rebounded as all but a few designers put fur back on the catwalks, and luxury-hungry China sent global sales surging 70 per cent in a decade, to 15 billion dollars in 2011.

But Mark Oaten, a former British MP who took the helm of the International Fur Trade Federation (IFTF) last year, is already scanning the horizon beyond Asia and its six billion dollars in annual fur sales.

“The knack of any industry is to spot where the next market is,” said Oaten, whose key targets are Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and — despite some scepticism in the business — Brazil.

“We know Brazil is going to be an economic powerhouse, we know Brazil loves its fashion — this is the market in my judgement.”

“This industry tends to follow where the wealth is. Our product has always been associated with the cold. But now our product has changed, and we are able to follow the wealth into warm climates.”

New types of fur — coloured, lightweight, trim — are making the industry less dependent on the cold season.

“We will not sell grandma’s fur coat in Brazil. We are selling fashion,” Oaten explains.

Philippe Beaulieu, head of the French Fur association, says European fur — mostly mink and fox, accounting for 60 per cent of world production — has been transformed through working with fashion designers.

“Designers push us to do new things. We are now able to work lighter fur with a regular sewing machine instead of a fur machine. We can mix it with different fabrics, use laser to create patterns or cut holes, without damaging the fur.”

Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton, and Jean Paul Gaultier have each used lightweight fur for summer collections — so is this the shape of things to come?

“Absolutely,” said Beaulieu. “There are no hang-ups about putting fur on the summer catwalks, because it can be shaved so close it becomes like velvet or silk.”

Controversial industry

To woo new markets, the IFTF is launching a multi-pronged public relations drive, with an ad campaign in Vogue highlighting fur as a fashionista must-have.

Another ad in GQ magazine, in tandem with US designer Rick Owens, will be aimed at men, “the 50 per cent of the population that’s still untapped”.

Full-page ads in The Economist will emphasise fur’s performance through the recession, while a campaign in Home and Garden magazine will push fur as a home furnishing material.

A one-time candidate for the Liberal Democrat party leadership, Oaten resigned as its home affairs spokesman in 2006 after a tabloid revealed he had paid for sex with a male prostitute. He stood down at the 2010 general election.

His new job also brings more than its share of controversy, as champion of a trade, fur farming, that is banned outright in Britain, Austria and Croatia, could soon face a ban in the Netherlands, and remains contested elsewhere.

None of the IFTF’s upcoming ad campaigns tackle the issue of animal welfare head-on, but since 2007 it has been working on a global welfare-labelling scheme called “Origin Assured”.

The OA label — which currently applies to two thirds of furs sold worldwide — ensures fur comes from a country that enforces Council of Europe standards on cage size, access to water, type and regularity of feed, housing conditions and pain-free slaughtering techniques.

“Ours is a controversial industry so the system that we have is under scrutiny the whole time,” Oaten said.

The countries that currently meet OA standards are Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Norway and the United States.

The big exception is China, which produces 25 per cent of the world’s fur, much of it for the domestic market.

The IFTF has set up a Chinese branch to try to push its farmers towards European standards, but Beaulieu conceded, “it will take time”.

Oaten readily accepts that “in Asia, certainly in China there is less of a tradition of animal welfare” than in the West.

Towards the most virulent anti-fur activists, meanwhile, he is calmly dismissive: “There will always be vegetarians, people opposed to nuclear weapons, that’s fine, that what healthy democracy is about.” — AFP/Relaxnews

Fur Is Back Big Time Marc Kaufman Furs NYC

Fur Is Back Big Time — Here’s Why

  • went back on their word — as did a good number of those overexposed PETA "faces." (Naomi Campbell even went so far as to do an ad campaign for the furrier Dennis Basso.) Fur began to creep back into fashion magazine pages. 1990s grunge and minimalism gave way to 2000s bling and ostentation. And now, fur is back in a big way. This year's fall runways? Among the designers who showed fur and/or shearling were Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Prada, Rebecca Minkoff, Salvatore Ferragamo, Tom Ford, Vivienne Westwood, and Yves Saint Laurent.

collection for Pologeorgis. Even a series of minor scandals over fur labeling hasn't served to set back the industry.

Five years ago, PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk said that only "old fogey designers like Karl Lagerfeld and so on" used fur, and that fashion's new generation just wasn't that into fur. Clearly, Newkirk was wrong.

In the past decade, fur has gone from being a kind of ethical third rail to just one point on the developing moral questionnaire of modern living. Maybe you care more about the environmental degradation, animal cruelty, and labor issues brought up by the leather tanning industry, or factory farms. Perhaps you think nothing of wearing vintage fur because to throw out a useful garment smacks of waste. Maybe you believe, like Silvia Fendi, that real fur is preferable to fake because, as she put it, "We did a collection of fake fur several years ago but found it is the most polluting thing for the environment." Perhaps you feel a little like Kelis, who concluded a long MySpace rant against PETA by weighing concern over animal welfare to concern for the human beings who toil in sweatshops and in the fields. "Underpaid minorities picking your vegetables, now that's fine for you right?" asked Kelis. "Don't waste my time trying to save the dang chipmunk!"

Whatever the case, fur is back in a big way. And it seems to be here to stay for the foreseeable future.
